Privacy Policy Best Practices

Do you have any questions on how to properly operate a UAS with a camera? Here are some quick guidelines to help you operate you UAS responsibly.

  • Create a privacy policy that outlines what data will be collected, how it will be used, and how it will be shared.
  • Ask Permission from those you wish to photograph or record before doing so.
  • Don't collect images of people or any other personal information continuously or for no reason.
  • If you are filming for research be sure that you have permission from the IRB Board to test on human subjects.
  • Make sure that if you take photos of minors you have waivers from their guardians before you begin.
  • Don't store personal data for longer than necessary and be sure to delete it properly.
  • Don't share data with people that have no need or permission to have it.
  • Allow for people to avoid being filmed if they don't want to be.

Remember that everyone has a right to privacy and that means that they should be allowed to move around freely without reasonable concern of surveillance. Any personal information such as a face, name, and other confidential details are up to the individual to volunteer.
